On May 31, 2016 OPTIMUM COMPOSITE TECHNOLOGIES, LLC. was awarded its patent for their Type 4 Boss from the United States Patent and Trademark Office.  Optimum has being using this technology for several years on products ranging from their small cylinders used for R&D Testing to high pressure Hydrogen tanks.  The polar boss can withstand pressures beyond 25,000psi. 

Optimum has used their polar boss in several commercial endeavors over the past 3 years. “We continually get reorders from a major automotive manufacture for our 7.5L bottles with our patented polar boss.” Said Customer Relations Manager Chad Morgan.

Optimum is working on certifying type 4 CNG tank using this technology and plan on having one ready for market by the first of next year. “Having a reliable leak free polar boss is one of the major obstacles in designing a successful type 4 cylinder.  We feel extremely confident in and have proven its reliability over and over again.” Commented Chief Technical Officer Mike Olson.

OPTIMUM COMPOSITE TECHNOLOGIES, LLC. has announced a new versatile CNG tank certification with multiple port sizes.  The 18-inch diameter by 37-inch long tank has two different port sizes.  “Having two separate port sizes makes this CNG tank highly adaptable and adds extra flexibility to our costumers”, reports Chad Morgan, the Customer Relations Manager of Optimum. 

The new CNG tank passed all the required bonfire tests in order to fully utilize the large 2-inch port on one side and the more common 1.125-inch port on the other side of the tank.  The 2-inch port facilitates using IMPCO Technologies’ internal solenoid tank valve with integral pressure relief device.  This valve is commonly used on GM and Honda conversions.   The 1.125-inch port facilities using OMB’s LYRA or BETA valves, or a Sherwood valve and GFI pressure relief device. 

Morgan says, “I know of no other tank on the market that offers this flexibility.  This new certification strengthens our presence in the light duty sector of the CNG market.”   

Optimum has a history of quick response to market demands and customer needs and was able to quickly comply with the necessary standards in order to get this tank certified.  Adam Goldstein, Managing Partner of Stag USA, is excited about the conversion and stated, “When we indicated to Optimum that we would be needing an additional size for another specification, Optimum delivered it in a very short period of time.”

The CNG tank is now certified to ANSI’s NGV2 standard for compressed natural gas vehicle fuel containers and meets the U.S. DOT’s FMVSS 304 standard.  

“The new CNG tank provides an ideal fit for the cargo space in the Chevrolet Cruze, Honda Civic, Ford Intercept, and smaller SUVs,” says Morgan. 

Deliveries for the CNG tank have already begun.

Brigham City, Utah based Optimum Composite Technologies has found an economical solution to replacing expired 1998-2001 Honda Civic tanks.  “Our kit has all the parts you need to swap out tanks and connect it to the existing system” said Optimum’s Chief Engineer Mike Olson.  The complete kit sells for less than $2,000 and takes about 3.5 hours to install.

“It's a hard sell to put $4,000-$5,000 into a 15 year old car but it doesn't make sense to scrap the car just because the tank is expired.  Consumers need an easy and economical solution and that's what we are offering.” said Chad Morgan Customer Relations Manager. The Optimum19x34 Type 3 tank has a larger capacity than the original tank, giving the consumer increased range between fills.

OPTIMUM COMPOSITE TECHNOLOGIES, LLC is now the exclusive tank provider for the AGA Systems EPA certified CNG bi-fuel system for the Chevrolet Equinox and GMC Terrain compact SUVs.  “We have a 16x35 (6.8 gge) and a 19x34 (8.3 gge) Type 3 CNG tank that both fit nicely in the cargo area of these vehicles,” said Chad Morgan, Customer Relations Manager at Optimum.

AGA Systems will provide the new CNG bi-fuel Equinox and Terrain vehicles in a choice of the Cargo Configuration (55 cu ft. cargo capacity) or the Passenger Configuration (seats 5).
